Mur Mur Is Less a Speaker Than a Portable Place

Mur Mur, developed by Oio with Mattering, is a portable speaker that refuses the usual terms of its category. The designers describe it as a place rather than an object, something that carries an ecosystem inside it. Bring it into a room and, by that account, you are not adding a box that plays sound but a small environment with its own weather.

Portable audio has argued about battery life, water resistance and driver counts for years, and those numbers have converged to the point of meaninglessness. Shifting to spatial effect is commercially risky, because the claim does not appear in any comparison table. It rests on a real observation, though: a speaker changes how a room feels, not just what it plays. The open question is durability of the effect. Atmosphere is easy to stage in a launch animation and harder to sustain by month six.
