Lucas Museum of Narrative Art Set to Open in Los Angeles on September 22, 2026

The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art has confirmed it will open its doors to the public in Los Angeles on September 22, 2026. According to ArchDaily, the museum sits on an 11-acre (4.5-hectare) site in Exposition Park and is housed in a 300,000-square-foot (27,900-square-meter) building.

The building was designed by Ma Yansong of MAD Architects, with landscape architecture by Mia Lehrer's Studio-MLA and Stantec serving as executive architect.

Per ArchDaily's report, the institution was founded by filmmaker George Lucas and his wife, businesswoman Mellody Hobson — a detail also stated in the museum's own official announcement, so the claim rests on more than a single outlet. The collection Lucas assembled over nearly five decades comprises more than 40,000 works, forming the core of a museum dedicated to narrative art.

Among the opening exhibitions is a dedicated cinema installation titled 'Star Wars in Motion,' which examines vehicles from the franchise's first six films through concept designs, props, and costumes.

With its architectural scale and the breadth of its holdings, the museum's opening adds a notable new stop to Los Angeles's cultural landscape.
