Arter Rebuilds Fifteen Years of Its Own Programme

Under Construction sets out to make Arter's fifteen-year exhibition history visible, gathering 39 works by 27 artists. The logic differs from a standard collection display: the works are arranged less as individual objects than as evidence of decisions an institution took over time. The title admits the provisional nature of the exercise, presenting a narrative still being assembled rather than a finished record.

Institutions writing their own history face an obvious limit, since every work chosen points at the exhibitions left out, and the account comes from inside. What works here is that the process stays exposed: recurring artists, shifting emphases and changes of direction can be read off the sequence. That matters in a field where institutional memory in Turkey is scattered across catalogues, press releases and private archives. The exhibition opened on 1 April 2026 and runs to 14 March 2027. Labels note which show each work came from; following them turns the display into a chronology.
