Toronto Biennial of Art Opens 26 September with Theme "Things Fall Apart"

The Toronto Biennial of Art, one of Canada's largest contemporary art events, opens its fourth edition from 26 September to 20 December 2026. This year's edition is curated by Allison Glenn under the title "Things Fall Apart."

The Biennial brings together more than 30 artists and collectives from Canada and around the world, including 12 Canadian and 22 international participants from the U.S., the Caribbean, South America, Europe, Africa and the SWANA region.

The exhibition includes 17 newly commissioned works, many responding to Toronto's environment and to connections between global waterways, from the Great Lakes to the Atlantic Ocean, the Caribbean and the Persian Gulf.

For the first time, the Biennial extends beyond the Greater Toronto Area, with artist projects and institutional collaborations in Detroit, New York and Anchorage.

Founder and Executive Director Patrizia Libralato said the 2026 edition reflects Toronto's identity while bringing together voices from across Canada and around the world.

Over a twelve-week run, exhibitions, performances and public programs remain free to the public, making the Biennial one of Canada's most accessible contemporary art platforms.
