A Collection Show Built Around a Single Colour

Under the Same Blue draws together artists from Turkey and elsewhere around one colour. Blue functions here as a metaphor rather than a palette: sky and sea as shared surfaces that describe distance and commonality at once. By establishing that common ground, the exhibition pushes geographic categories into the background and lets works from different regions belong to a single conversation.

Thematic collection displays carry a known risk, since a loose enough theme accommodates anything and the show becomes a vitrine. What the viewer can test is whether the colour genuinely holds the works together or merely supplies a title. The duration is telling in itself: a run of sixteen months indicates that collection displays now serve museums as a permanent spine rather than a temporary insert, which makes the question of what enters that spine worth arguing about. The exhibition opens on 8 September 2026 and closes on 31 December 2027 at the museum in Karaköy.
