Minimalist Photography Awards 2026 Winners Announced
Polish photographer Marcin Giba won Minimalist Photographer of the Year for "The Last Winter," an aerial series of frozen lakes, in a competition that drew over 6,200 entries from nearly 70 countries.
The Minimalist Photography Awards (MPA) has announced its 2026 winners, selected from more than 6,200 photographs submitted by photographers from nearly 70 countries across twelve categories.
Polish photographer Marcin Giba won the title of Minimalist Photographer of the Year for "The Last Winter," an aerial series of frozen lakes near his hometown of Rybnik. Giba shot the images with a DJI Mavic 2 Pro drone in manual mode, each frame a single exposure, saying he wanted to document a "vanishing beauty" as snow becomes an increasingly fleeting phenomenon in the city.
Along with the title, Giba received a €2,000 cash prize. His work, along with other category winners, will be featured in a winners' exhibition, whose date and location have not yet been announced, and in the annual MPA photobook.
Milad Safabakhsh, founder of the Minimalist Photography Awards and a jury member, said this year's submissions reaffirmed that an image doesn't need complexity to be powerful, bringing together photographers who find meaning in simplicity, space, light, and silence.
The winning images range widely in approach, from eerie shots of abandoned buildings to a sculpture photographed under the Milky Way on Easter Island, underscoring that minimalism resists a single aesthetic definition.
