Fujifilm Unveils instax Pal 2 With a Real Optical Viewfinder

Fujifilm has introduced the second generation of its palm-sized instax Pal camera. The company's Tokyo headquarters announced the launch in an official press release dated September 15, 2026, a day after Fujifilm's North American division had shared its own release on September 14 — a small gap suggesting the news rolled out region by region rather than all at once.

The headline addition is a genuine optical viewfinder, a first for the Pal line. Fujifilm's Japanese release also credits the camera with a newly added control dial and lever, framing the changes as delivering "a richer photographic experience." The US release corroborates the same upgrade, describing it as an "Authentic Optical Viewfinder."

On pricing, Fujifilm has set a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price of $169.95 in the United States and $219.99 in Canada. The company's Tokyo headquarters has confirmed the camera goes on sale in Japan on October 9, 2026 — a date that has also been reported independently by outlets such as Notebookcheck, rather than resting on Fujifilm's release alone. No firm date has been set for the US market; Fujifilm's North American division points only to a "late September 2026" window, which remains a preliminary estimate rather than a locked-in release day.

Fujifilm executive Bing Liem recalled that when the original instax Pal launched in October 2023, some consumers were unsure what to make of the tiny camera. The Pal 2's redesign directly addresses one of the most common complaints about that debut model by finally adding a real viewfinder.

Fujifilm continues to position the palm-top device as a companion to its instax instant printers, letting users shoot and store images digitally before choosing which shots to print onto instax film.
