Canon Unveils EOS R8 Mark II as Its Lightest IBIS Camera

Canon posted an announcement on its U.S. newsroom page dated September 15, 2026, revealing the full-frame EOS R8 Mark II camera alongside a new range of accessories. The same day, a press release text published by DPReview corroborated the launch, confirming that Canon introduced the new full-frame EOS R8 Mark II and its accompanying accessory lineup.

According to the press release, the camera is described as the lightest EOS body to include In-Body Image Stabilization (IBIS). It is built around a roughly 24.2-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor, with standard ISO sensitivity reaching up to 102400 to aid clarity in low-light conditions.

On the performance side, the camera supports high-speed shooting at up to 40 frames per second using its electronic shutter. It also offers a pre-continuous shooting function capable of capturing up to 20 frames before the shutter button is fully pressed, a feature apparently aimed at helping photographers catch fast, unpredictable moments.

In the same announcement, Canon introduced the new Speedlite EL-5 Ver.2 flash, designed for enhanced communication with EOS R System cameras equipped with the multi-function hotshoe. Rounding out the accessory lineup is the optional EG-E2 extension grip, built specifically for the EOS R8 Mark II, which attaches to the camera via a simple turn-dial locking mechanism.
