Seven one-off pieces from a Murano furnace

Wallpaper reported on 28 July 2026 on Garden, a lighting collection by Peter B Staples of Blue Green Works, hand-blown at a fourth-generation furnace on Murano. Clear glass is worked into leaf and feather forms across seven pieces, each made as a one-off for its client. Staples founded the studio in 2020 with James McAvey.

The project began under difficult circumstances: Staples' mother died as he was travelling to Venice to start the collaboration, and he spent the following seven months moving between the Murano workshops and his family home in the Midwest. He wanted, in his words, to make something about heartbreak, and the technical result is visible on the objects. Edges are not corrected and joints are not concealed, which inverts the usual Murano measure of mastery, where skill is proven by erasing its own traces. In an island economy squeezed by energy costs and furnace closures, expensive one-off work is increasingly what keeps the kilns lit.
