A São Paulo theatre opens a permanent space for visual art
Luísa Matsushita's new paintings, drawn from her memory of nightlife in Baixo Augusta, inaugurate the Aberto Solo programme on 15 August.
Cultura Artística in São Paulo opens a new space dedicated to visual art on 15 August 2026, inaugurated by Luísa Matsushita's exhibition Tudo que eu sei, eu aprendi à noite. The show runs to 27 September at Rua Nestor Pestana 196 in Consolação, with free admission, and was listed by ELLE Brasil on 31 July 2026.
Matsushita made the paintings specifically for the venue, working from her emotional memory of central São Paulo and the nightlife of Baixo Augusta, the district where she lived early in her career. The exhibition also launches Aberto Solo, a programme pairing contemporary artists with notable architecture. Hybrid programmes of this kind usually end as lobby decoration. This one starts differently, with a body of work made for the address it hangs in. Whether the second and third shows keep that relationship is the part worth watching.
