The Armory Show launches its first museum acquisition prizes
For the first time in its more than three-decade history, the New York fair will award acquisition prizes letting the Pérez Art Museum Miami and the Bronx Museum add a work to their collections.
The Armory Show announced on August 21 that it will introduce its first-ever museum acquisition prizes at its upcoming edition, running September 24–27 in New York.
The Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) and the Bronx Museum will each select a work for their permanent collections — PAMM from the fair's Focus section, dedicated this year to the Caribbean, and the Bronx Museum from Presents, its section for emerging galleries.
The PAMM Acquisition Prize provides $20,000 to support acquisitions for the museum and its Green Family Foundation Caribbean Cultural Institute, while the Bronx Museum Acquisition Prize establishes a $15,000 fund backed by its Diane Moss Director's Discretionary Fund.
Fair organizers describe the milestone as a first in the fair's more than three-decade history, reflecting a broader trend of art fairs playing a direct role in museums' collection development, beyond their traditional commercial function.
